  • Mare Liberum: Haiku & Tanka by Jacob Salzer

First & foremost, I hope everyone is doing well.

I recently published a new collection of haiku & tanka: Mare Liberum, a latin phrase that translates to Freedom of the Seas.

It is a collection of 48 haiku & tanka inspired by water and the sea.

This publication would not have been possible without the encouragement, sharing and inspiration from several people in both our local and international haiku communities.

Also, I want to thank Clayton for writing a very kind blurb for the back cover.

Most of my haiku & tanka in Mare Liberum originally appeared in: A Hundred Gourds, Atlas Poetica, Bones, Chrysanthemum, Failed Haiku, Frogpond, Haiku Commentary, Modern Haiku, Under the Basho, The Heron's Nest, Skylark, and Ribbons.

    Here are a few samples:

    unheard rainstorm
    drowning within
    a digital sea

    now that I have seen
    the other side
    of darkness...
once more I am a small child
    slowly climbing into the light

    yesterday's tide
    the deep cave
    echoes

Thanks! This collection features haiku way back when I first started writing haiku in 2006, all the way to present time.

Thank you! I appreciate your kindness. In Mare Liberum, I tried to include only my very best haiku and tanka. In a way, I guess it serves as a kind of garden bed to grow from. : )
